Exhibition by Caitlin Mary Margarett: Midsummer Hymns
Undeniable is the frenetic, anxiety producing reality that our culture and ecological health is in an edge state. Humans occupy a moment of great intensity: the power to change our ways and move forward with beneficence and justice is within our grasp. It requires a fundamental transformation of modern culture; a scale so large that it can cause the throat to clench shut in fear and generate despairing complacency with our doom. Simultaneously, a smaller, softer, and more personal transformation is required. A movement, so gentle, into agency and belief in the right to survive, in the right to flourish within the individual self. Midsummer Hymns is a gesture of that sole movement towards claiming agency for the Self- demanding the right to become full and grow after withstanding personal tempests and trials of wild sorrow and fury. This body of work showcases cyanotypes, letters, and found objects that document gestures of a Self leaning into Her agency and awareness, a Self that sees the great distance between horrified inaction and a belief that we can change through determined, pagan rebellion.
