DESCRIPTION OF EXHIBITION:

The Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio (iCCGS) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa is pleased to present: “Earth, Sand and Fire: The Bowl.  An Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio Community Exhibition”.   The work in the show is comprised of submissions from the community of students and studio artists who work at the Center and highlights the richness and diversity of ceramic and glass artists within this community. The works gathered in this show collectively express the organization’s mission to connect people from all walks of life, to learn and create together. This exhibition is the first in an exhibition series at iCCGS entitled ‘A Formed Community’, whose purpose is to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Center.

ABOUT THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY:

ICCGS is an area arts nonprofit organization that turns 10 years old in 2019. The 10th anniversary events are a celebration of the incredible creative community iCCGS has built over these past 10 years. A variety of celebratory programming is scheduled throughout 2019, including: an ambitious exhibition series, entitled ‘A Formed Community’, specialized Visiting Artist workshops and presentations, an all-day Open House/Family Day in June and a ‘10th Anniversary Party’ in October.

The Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio offers countless outreach programs in the community, classes for all ages and experience levels and serves as a creative hub, bringing in professional artists from around the nation for exhibitions and demonstrations.

During this 10th year anniversary year, the Center invites the larger Cedar Rapids community to join in the celebration – to stop by the Center any time to see for themselves the rich variety of opportunities available to them – to learn, to create and to grow. Ellen Kleckner, the Executive Director of the Center, was quoted as saying “the studio is a place where community and creativity meet!”
