Some like it hot! Have you heard of all the health benefits that bone broth boasts? We’ve invited fellow girl boss & founder of Braised Bone Broth, Kate Brown, to be 2019’s first Very Important Houseguest for Girl Power Lunch Hour. Join us for a little girl talk, Kate sharing her health journey & how it led to founding her business, &… a little (or a lot!) bone broth tasting, of course!

Katy Brown’s food and nutrition centered career began in 2002 in Hawaii over a bowl of pho…for breakfast. There to study organic chemistry at the University of Hawaii, the real education came from the culture and its cuisine. By then Katy had spent over a decade in disordered eating habits and suffered health concerns like pre-diabetes, adrenal fatigue, and digestive issues despite her rigorous Division I athletic training schedule as a competitive diver. Consuming nourishing brothy soups for breakfast – as many Asian cultures do – began a personal health transformation and foreshadowed the professional life to come. Katy declared her major in Human Food and Nutrition as a pre-medical student and graduated from the University of Wyoming.

With diverse experience and experimentation with food and its effects on the body, it became Katy’s mission to educate others about nutrition holistically. Her ability to integrate all points-of-view on food to inspire individuals or large corporate groups became her craft. The Livewell Clinic, Whole Woman Health, Healthy for Life and several other companies in the functional health space have hired Katy as a consultant and educator and she’s currently partnered with Wallace Farms to create and deliver “Farmacy: Food as Medicine” events and community education.

In 2016 Katy founded the specialty food business BRAISED Bone Broth Company with the mission of providing ‘consciously convenient’ superfoods to the modern consumer and her eye-catching cedar trailer is becoming a staple of the downtown Des Moines Farmers’ Market.

Katy spends most days balancing the challenge of raising three children to be healthy and kind and serving her community through her business and professional platforms. With the more recent expansion of her brood to include two children in less than two years, she believes her most significant accomplishment is providing life-giving nutrition to her family each day as delicious meals are enjoyed by all around the dinner table. There is no greater calling for her than to inspire and empower others to do the same.
