Every couple of months a group of misfits and wacky funsters gets together in a room … a writers’ room, in fact … and comes up with a series of original comedy sketches. Out of this secular conclave will grow 15-20 theatrical pieces that, when wed to the magic of SPT’s raucous theatrical energy, make for an evening of live entertainment unlike any other in Eastern Iowa.
SPT Theatre and CSPS Hall are proud to celebrate the 11th season of Tales from the Writers’ Room with What’s in a Name?, a series of five weekend shows exploring names, meanings and . . . who knows what else? Each episode is written in the week leading up to the performance, so exactly what it will contain is anybody’s guess, but the night is guaranteed to be the awesomely entertaining. All the regulars are back — Adam Witte, Mary Sullivan, Lindsay Price, Chris Okiishi, David Martino — joined on each outing by guest writers and actors, along with a few old friends who keep the performers on their toes and the audience in stitches. Local musicians join in to provide the live music that rocks the house and moves the soul.
