Luckily there are several options to eat fresh and local in our Main Street District. On Thursday evenings the NewBo City Market hosts a “CSA Market” from 4-8pm, and on Saturday mornings they host a “Pop Up Market” from 8am-1pm that includes a Farmers Market outside.

Several restaurants in the Czech Village / New Bohemia Main Street District pride themselves on using local produce and products. Included in this list would be: Bata’s, Brewhemia, Caucho, Lion Bridge Brewing Company, and Pig and Porter.

When asked about the local products, Joel Kane from Bata’s said, “I would say approximately 75% of our meat comes from local farms and probably 60% of our produce. We are currently working with two farms to increase that, and also co-funded a greenhouse operation with an Iowa City restaurant to help one of our farms to be able to produce more produce for a longer season. We don’t necessarily consider our restaurant a complete “farm to fork” operation”. We understand that supporting local is important, but there is a sustainability factor along with several others that prohibit that being feasible for all restaurants.”

Also featured on the video above, Matt Melone says 85% of Pig and Porter’s menu is from local farmers. Stop by and check out a taste of local produce and products at the NewBo City Market, and also the many restaurants in the district!
