Topics discussed with Rob Hogg included:
- Interest in bringing back the Czech Village Roundhouse to serve as a community center for this area as well as a great place for farmer’s markets, and buying fresh produce and products.
- The Area Action Plan for the DISTRICT — including local housing, a boutique hotel, destination playground and green space.
- A trolley that would loop Downtown, New Bohemia, Czech Village and Kingston Village. This would improve transportation, usage and access between the core neighborhoods of Cedar Rapids.
Rob began his talk by listing many bi-partison projects the state legislature has accomplish that have affected Cedar Rapids. Such as:
2003/2004 Updated Child Safety Seat Laws
Children’s Health Care 2007
Smoke-free Legislation in 2008
Stem pilot project 2007 & contining stem education
2008/2009 Flood recovery – including 10 million towards National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library and Iowa jobs money that helped renovate CSPS Hall.
2009 – Iowa flood center – to manage water shed and future projects protecting Cedar Rapids
2012 – Iowa Flood Mitigation Program began, Iowa solar energy tax-credit 2,000,000 invested in solar energy projects
CAT program – funded NewBo City Market in part, helped Theatre Cedar Rapids after the flood
Rob has helped with the Recreational Trail Program, and Iowa Great Places Program, as well as Historic Preservation Tax Credits.
Rob Hogg is planning to attend the Fall of the Wall Celebration at the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library November 9th 2019.
